Smooth Dialog

Use this dialog to apply temporal and/or spatial kernels on images.  (reference)

bullet

Example Smoothing a Set of Images

  1. Load a set of images. They can be from the same spatial location or same scanning parameters of differing locations.
  2. Select Spatial processing.
  3. Unselect Temporal processing.
  4. Enter values for the kernel elements.
  5. Unselect Background (zero) pixels. If disabled, zero pixels are not incuded in the processing of non-zero pixels.
  6. Select No overwrite to put results in new browser.
  7. Press Smooth to apply the kernel to the selected images.
bullet

Dialog Items

bullet

Median

Press Median to smooth the selected image(s) by finding the median value in each neighborhood.

bullet

Max

Press Max to smooth the selected image(s) by finding the maximum value in each neighborhood.

bullet

Mode

Press Mode to smooth the selected image(s) by finding the most frequent value in each neighborhood.

bullet

Texture (reference)

Press Texture to apply the texture filters to the selected image(s).

bullet Select Multi-Wavelet 1, the only texture method currently available.
bullet

XxX

Press XxX to create spatially smoothed image(s) using a X x X low-pass filter. This method uses an fft to decrease computation time.

Filter Size

bullet Select 9x9 to use a 9 x 9 low-pass filter.
bullet Select 17x17 to use a 17 x 17 low-pass filter.
bullet Select 33x33 to use a 33 x 33 low-pass filter.
bullet Select 65x65 to use a 65 x 65 low-pass filter.
bullet Select 129x129 to use a 129 x 129 low-pass filter.
bullet Select 257x257 to use a 257 x 257 low-pass filter.
bullet Select 513x513 to use a 513 x 513 low-pass filter.

Iterations

bullet Select n to perform the X x X low-pass filter n times.

Slice Values

bullet

Enter the minimum gray level value to be used in Lower.  Enter the maximum gray level value to be used in Upper.

Note

All other gray levels will be treated as background and replaced with the average value of the included gray levels in the image.

bullet

Overwrite Options

bullet Select No Overwrite to display the result images in a new browser
bullet Select Overwrite to replace the source images with the result images.
bullet Select Divide to divide the source images by the result images, replacing the source images.  The result of the smooth will be displayed in a new browser.

Note

The Divide option available for X x X, 1 iteration only.

bullet

Background

Select Background to include zero pixels in the smooth operation, disable to ignore zero pixels in the smooth operation.

Note

For X x X, the background is defined as the values outside the lower, upper range provided by the user.

bullet

Kernel Entry

Enter the temporal and/or spatial smoothing parameters in the spaces provided.

bullet

Normalize

Select Normalize to adjust the smooth mask to have a mean value of 1.

bullet

Neighborhood eta

Enter a value, in eta, for the distance between pixel gray levels for a pixel to be included in smooth of the central pixel.

bullet

Smooth

Press Smooth to apply the temporal andor spatial kernel to the selected images.

bullet

Temporal/Spatial Selection

bullet Select Temporal to enable temporal smoothing.
bullet Select Spatial to enable spatial smoothing.
