Dicom Header Dialog

 

Use this dialog to view and modify the contents of the DICOM header for an image or set of images.  The dialog contents change depending on the group selected.

Required Dicom Elements

The following elements are necessary for eigentool to accurately calculate values from the images or to process images.

X/Y Pixel Spacing (Image Group)

bullet

Slice Thickness (Acquisition Group)

bullet

Slice Location (Relationship Group)

Patient Name (Patient Group)

Note

A research identifier can be used to hide the real information, see the example on removing this information.

Example Removing Patient Information for HIPAA regulations

  1. Enter an assigned research designation and number in Research Name.

  2. Press Deidentify, images will be saved automatically.  The name (or first name if entered last,first) will also be used as the MRN.

Example Combining Multiple fMRI series into one series

  1. Press Apply Changes to . . .

  2. Select Files in the Modify Dicom Element Dialog that is presented
     

    In the Image Load Dialog
     

    1. Turn off List Ima

    2. Select the Series that make a single paradigm
       

  3. Click OK in the Modify Dicom Element Dialog

    In the Dicom Header Dialog
     

  4. Change Group to Relationship

    1. Enter new Series Number, Press Return

      Note

      The Series Number should not already exist and should end with the same digit as the original series numbers

    2. Enter 1, 1 in the Start, Increment entries

    3. Select Image Number and Press Return

  5. Press Save

    Note

    The format can be changed using the Image Load and Image Save dialogs.

Dialog Items

Apply Changes to . . .

Press Apply Changes to . . . to select which images to modify when an element is changed.  Images in a browser or a selected list of image files can be selected.  If image files are selected, the image files are loaded, but not displayed.

Save

Press Save to save the images that were selected in Apply Changes to, with the modified elements.

 Note

For a selected list of image files only, not for images loaded into a browser.  Use the Image Save dialog to save images already loaded into a browser.

Reset

Press Reset to reset the image selections.

Copy Header

Press Copy Header to copy the DICOM header information from one image to other images, replacing the previous information.  The Image Selection dialog will be displayed for the user to select the image to copy from and the images to replace header information.

Note

The images are always overwritten.  Also, some fields do not get copied, such as Rows, Columns, Bits Allocated, and any UID numbers.

Deidentify

Press Deidentify to remove all identifying information for a patient study, so that it can be used in research projects and/or transferred to other institutions.  A copy of the original patient study will be created, deidentified and saved.

Enter an assigned research name and number in Research Name.

Note

The Patient Name is replaced with the Research Name.  The following information will be replaced with blank information:  Study Time, Institution, Reading Physician, Physician Name, Manufacturer, Model, Study Description, Patient ID, Other Patient ID, Birth Date, Weight, and Study Number.  The original patient study will still exist and can be deleted, if no longer needed.

Duplicate

Press Duplicate to create images that are the duplicate of each of the original images.  The thickness of each image will be adjusted for the new number of images.

Select the number of duplicates to create for each image in # Duplicates.

Groups

Select from one of the following groups to display the header information from that group.

Select Identifying to display study information, such as admitting diagnosis.

bullet

Select Patient to display patient information, such as patient name.

bullet

Select Acquisition to display acquisition information, such as slice thickness.

bullet

Select Relationship to display information on the relationship between the images, such as slice location.

bullet

Select Image to display images specific information, such as pixel sizes.

Elements

First, use Apply Changes to to select which images to apply element modification to.  If not used, the current image only will be changed.  Then, Enter or modify information in the field and  press enter to make it permanent in the Dicom header.  Any change made to the header will cause a new Unique Identifier Number (UID) to be created.  You can enter information that changes for each image in one of the 2 following ways:

Enter the starting value for the element and the increment, separated by a comma.

e.g. 1,1 in Image Number will put 1 in Image Number for the 1st image header, 2 in Image Number for the 2nd image header, and so on.

Enter a list of strings, separated by commas, to be used for each  image header in order.

e.g. label1,label2,label3 in Description will put label1 in the Description for the 1st image header, label2 in the Description for the 2nd image header, and so on.

Note

Some items are for display only and may not be modified, specifically any item that is a UID (Unique Identifier) cannot be modified by the user.

Cancel

Press Cancel to remove the Dicom Header dialog.

Press Help to display help for the Dicom Header dialog.
